Officials: More Than 30 Displaced After New Britain Fire

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Fire officials say more than 30 people were displaced after a fire ripped through a multi-family building and grocery store in New Britain.

Firefighters were called to Broad Street around 3:30 a.m. Saturday after reports of a fire in the building. The residence includes a grocery store.

Officials say the fire spread to two other multi-family homes by the time firefighters arrived. The flames were extinguished by 9:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported. Officials say all three structures were deemed uninhabitable.

The American Red Cross opened a shelter to assist the nine families. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
